If you think the most important key to having a dog that behaves is obedience training, I have some news for you. It isn't. When a dog whines, barks, pees on the floor or does any other unwanted behavior, obedience training won't always fix the problem.
This bad behavior is not always caused by them not knowing a certain training command. Many times, the problem is deeper. Let's say your dog chews on your furniture. Well, you could use some sort of deterrent to keep your dog from chewing on it - or you could yell 'no' at your dog every time you see them chewing, but does that stop them from wanting/needing to chew? No. Most likely they are chewing on things because their teeth hurt. If you're able to fix the reason their teeth hurt, you've fixed the problem. If you can't fix the reason their teeth hurt (for example, if it's a puppy that's teething), then you can get some special teething toys for them to chew on instead.
Or let's say your dog is aggressive toward people or other dogs. You can teach them to back off when they are about to lunge, but this does nothing toward solving the actual issue. Your dog may have serious issues causing the aggression, and simply dealing with the 'symptoms' does nothing toward solving the problem.
So how can this be fixed? Well, be sure to take your dog on regular visits to the veterinarian, because bad behavior can be caused by medical problems. Definitely take your dog in if they have a sudden change in behavior.
Read up on dog psychology. It'll really help. You'll have the ability to understand how your dog is communicating with you. Since stress and anxiety are major causes of behavior problems, it's very helpful to be able to read your dog's body language and know when there's something wrong.
You may be thinking I don't believe dog obedience training is important, given the tone of this article so far. That's not the case at all though. You should definitely make sure to teach your dog obedience commands. Just don't rely on strictly using obedience commands when your dog is misbehaving, because there might be a deeper issue causing the problem. Never resort to just punishing your dog's bad behavior either. Your dog needs rewards and praise.
If you approach dog training armed with a good attitude and the right techniques, you'll succeed. Don't give up. Just in the US, more than 9 million dogs are put to sleep each year. 65% of those are being killed because of behavior problems. Your dog doesn't deserve to be one of them. If you don't think you can fix your dog problems on your own, get some help from a qualified dog behaviorist.

Cats are normally very content and pleased being the most loved pet of the family and always keep purring and playing with their possessors. Cats are the most excellently behaved pets. This is because they have some special personalities which make them very lovable to the persons owning them along with the fact that they are also capable of taking good care of itself. Corgi puppies make an excellent pet, especially for kids. The Corgi's natural instinct to guard and herd will keep them safe, while their kind and gentle disposition makes them a great friend. The first choice you need to make is whether to choose a Pembroke or Cardigan Corgi. Both have the same gentle and loyal character, and whichever one you choose you will have a loyal dog.
Before choosing a puppy you should always research a responsible breeder. Visiting the kennel is a good way to check things out. When visiting the kennels take note of the cleanliness and size of the kennels. They should be kept clean, and have adequate room for the puppies inside. The puppies should be well socialized, and the adults should have a good temperament and be well behaved. A good breeder is willing to answer questions and guarantee that he will take the puppy back if things don't work out.
You should look for a healthy looking puppy (no runny eyes/runny nose, clean ears and skin, etc.) that is active, and likes people. Although the corgi is happy to lie by the fire, or hang out by your feet as you read a book, it is an active breed and enjoys playing ball ,Frisbee, and tug-o-war, sometimes to the point of exhaustion.
Corgis seem to have very few disease problems. There have been some incidences of progressive retinal atrophy, an eye disease that causes blindness, and hip dysplasia, spinal disc problems, autoimmune diseases, and cataracts can crop up. It is advised to have your Corgi x-rayed for hip dysplasia and other joint malformations, and eye examinations are recommended. There have been some temperament problems of late, manifesting as excessive barking and aggression, so care must be taken in selecting a breeder and a puppy.
Corgis love to eat, and weight can be an issue. Make sure to research your puppies food before feeding it to him to help prevent overfeeding. Overweight Corgis are more at risk for joint problems.
Before you choose your puppy, make sure you check Justin Gordon's excellent free guide to owning Corgi puppies, and training Corgi puppies
